Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids

Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids is a grassroots charity dedicated to supporting children and families in rural and regional Australia who are facing tough times — from drought and financial hardship to serious illness or personal loss.

In recent years, the charity has expanded through the KISS (Kids In-need Santa Sacks) Program, which delivers care and Christmas joy directly to children identified by health professionals in hospitals and community facilities. The KISS Program now reaches Dubbo, Wellington, Bathurst, Parkes, Albury, Tamworth, and the Queensland Children’s Hospital, and is expanding into Townsville and Nambour — with Townsville’s team also supporting families across Palm Island.

Thanks to a Qantas grant, Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids is also taking Jason and the YOWIE Program into these areas. The YOWIE Program focuses on youth wellbeing, resilience, and community connection, using storytelling, conversation, and creativity to help kids navigate challenges and build confidence. It’s been especially meaningful in regions like the Sunshine Coast, where recent filming and outreach highlighted families in Nambour affected by Cyclone Alfred — showing how small acts of kindness can spark big change in communities that need it most.

Alongside these initiatives, the charity continues its much-loved Christmas Toys for Rural Boys and Girls program — providing toys, gifts, and support to farming families doing it tough, as well as to children living with serious illness or recovering from trauma. Every nomination represents a story of courage and community — from a 3-year-old battling leukaemia to a young mum of three living with a life-altering brain injury — and each one reminds us of the power of compassion and connection.

Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids is built on one simple belief: that no matter how far away they live, every Aussie kid deserves to feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
