Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids

Doin it for Rural Aussie Kids is a grassroots charity dedicated to supporting children and families in rural and regional Australia who are doing it tough. Through practical programs, heartfelt initiatives, and strong community partnerships, the charity brings joy, relief, and hope to kids who need it most.
With new regions joining in 2025, Doin it for Rural Aussie Kids is preparing for its biggest year yet, working to ensure no rural Aussie child misses out on the magic of Christmas.
YOWIE Program
One of its flagship initiatives is the YOWIE Program (Youth, Outback, Work-hard, Inspire, Encourage), developed by Bec and delivered into schools by Jason. The program uses the Yowie mascot — a fun, recognisable character adored by children — to engage students in conversations about resilience, kindness, and community values. With storytelling, interactive activities, and positive role modelling, the YOWIE Program encourages young people to embrace hard work, believe in themselves, and support one another. It has become a favourite in schools, with the Yowie handprint and merchandise helping spread its message far and wide.

Christmas Initiatives
The charity has also launched the KISS Program (Kids In-need Santa Sacks), now operating in partnership with health facilities in Dubbo, Wellington, Bathurst, Parkes, Albury, Tamworth, and the Queensland Children’s Hospital, with Townsville and Nambour to follow this year. Under this nomination-based program, health staff identify children and families experiencing hardship, illness, or trauma, who then receive personalised Santa sacks filled with gifts to brighten their Christmas. With strong community support and a Qantas grant helping to expand into schools around Nambour and Palm Island, the program continues to grow rapidly.
Alongside this, the Christmas Toys for Rural Boys and Girls Program supports farming families under financial strain, children living with serious illness, and those impacted by sudden trauma such as the loss of a loved one. Nominations come directly from local communities, ensuring support goes where it is needed most.
